Topic Integrating Hazard Evaluation Techniques into Job Hazards Analyses
A job hazard analysis (JHA) is an analysis focusing on job tasks to identify hazards before the hazards impacts workers and reflects the relationship between the worker, the task, the tools, and the work environment. The traditional JHA involves a tabletop review of a procedure and/or walkthrough of a task with the identification of hazards and one-to-one assignment of controls. The use of hazard evaluation techniques such as relative ranking, cause-consequence pairing, what-if/checklist, and HAZOP improves the effectiveness of the JHA. The completion of the process hazards analysis (PrHA) for OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) can be integrated into the JHA process through use of more sophisticated hazard evaluation techniques.
